Rainy and 49 degrees this morning and the forecast does not
get better all day. So we decided to do some cruise planning for the Georgian
Bay and North Channel and wait out another day. Fortunately, the marina gives
the third day free. We provisioned for the next week or so, took a shower and
did some recreational reading. We have good WiFi here and can watch Netflix and
catch up on Email here in the marina.
I have been noticing a shore power electrical issue, one of
the ends on our power cords was scorched, a very bad sign. I replaced the end
and noticed that the next time we had shore power that the new end showed minor
scorch marks as well. So here I used the other cord and noticed from time to
time the electrical connection would drop and then restart. It seemed the cord
ends could not be the problem since several experienced the same issue. But how
could the socket be causing the issue? Today, I considered the problem might be
with the connection to the socket mounted on the wall of the boat. I looked at
the back side of the socket and saw sparks, again a very bad sign. The positive
wire had become loose and was over heating, the back side of the socket was
burned and both the screw and nut and the cable eye were blackened and had lost
their temper. I tightened the screw but was not happy with the fix, this could
cause a fire.
We have two 30 amp receptacles one for all electrical and
the second for air conditioning. I was able to move the wires from the faulty
receptacle to the air conditioning receptacle to create a permanent fix on that
set of wires. I will need to purchase a new receptacle for the air conditioning
feed to finish the project.

Does everyone who does the Loop have to be an electrical engineer/fixer upper type guy?!? I'm pretty impressed with what you do to keep the Reunion going, Dennis! You and Carol are a great pair!
