Carol is currently visiting her mom in Sarasota and will
return on Monday. I have moved the boat to Mile Hammock Bay an anchorage near
Swan Point Marina and will be doing various boat chores until she returns.
Yesterday, I did some basic cruise planning to carry us through Norfolk and
into the Chesapeake. We do rough planning and then modify our plans as
necessary due to weather or other circumstances.
Joe and Pat on Glory Days our mentors at the MTOA Rendezvous
were anchored here last evening and I visited with them for decktails. The wind
had increased in the afternoon to 15 knots. I lowered the dinghy and drove to
their boat for a visit. About a half hour later the anchor on Reunion began to
slip, another boater noticed the problem and began to blow a horn to alert everyone.
Joe and I scrambled into the dinghy and drove to Reunion, the anchor grabbed
again and slowed the movement. I started the engine and Joe raised the anchor
from the upper helm. The first reset of the anchor failed and we moved to
another open spot in the bay, this time the anchor held firm. The depth at the
new anchorage was only 4.5 feet at middle tide, all was well through the
evening and this morning I moved to a deeper location. Scary but everything
turned out well. Many thanks to Joe and Pat.
Regular Blogs will begin again on Tuesday when we move on.

Hi Dennis,
ReplyDeleteCertainly was an exciting visit. I noticed you moved but didn't get a chance to say good bye as we left early. Just arrived home today on Cape Cod.
