Georgetown to Calabash River Anchorage

Today was a long travel day 62 miles, all morning we fought the tide and could only make 6.5 mph. This afternoon was a bit better with either a neutral or favorable tide and 8 to 9.5 mph was the norm. We asked for openings at two swing bridges and found the bridge tenders quite agreeable to our requests. The rest of the bridges were highway bridges with 65 ft clearance. Lots of northbound boats now one we saw from Fish Creek, WI and we all cheered, “On Wisconsin”.

We took the time this morning to attend our local church in Wisconsin via podcast, always a pleasant, reflective time in our lives. For any of you who are traveling, check out spaceshipchurch.org under news click on podcasts you will enjoy the service and the sermons from Pastor Dave or Christine. Today we did the Easter service, yes we are an extra week behind.

Today I remembered some of the places from our last trip and it was quite nice feeling familiar. We bypassed Myrtle Beach, since it is strictly designed for tourists and we generally do not do waterparks or golf. We saw some golfers on a course and again I remember seeing them on our last trip, kind of neat.

Last night we met Ron on Mouzzer, Carol invited them for docktails and Ron stopped by for some shrimp. This morning we met with Ron on Field Trip and he provided information about anchorages in the Chesapeake, mostly on the eastern shore, we always appreciate local knowledge and Carol took extensive notes.

The anchorage tonight is quite windy and we needed to reset the anchor once so far. But I think we are now well anchored, most anchorages are rock solid but some are a bit soft and the anchor can drag in a stiff wind and tidal current combination.
