We had a smooth sailing day today, no noticeable trouble
spots on the ICW and the water was calm and the sky was blue. Since it’s a Monday, we enjoyed the absence
of dozens or hundreds of small recreational boats zipping about in every
direction.

Interesting homes |
Approaching Southport, NC we noticed a marina right along the
ICW where we took port in a torrential storm when we came through here three
years ago. It was only our second day of
driving Reunion and that storm was quite memorable. Now, with all our “experience” that storm
would still be memorable. Glad to pass
this way in the sunshine.
We came into Southport Marina and would highly recommend it
to others. The place has been renovated
in the last couple of years. It has wide
floating docks, great facilities and an efficient and friendly staff. Something unique is the evening weather and
navigation briefing given by a retired Navy meteorologist. He discussed weather patterns and forecasts
for the next few days. Then he reviewed
the ICW routes along North Carolina waters.
NC takes good care of the waterway and any shoaling seems to be dealt
with quite promptly. We expect beautiful
weather and trouble free navigating for the next few days.

Lots of stories on the AICW |
Bob and Kay Creech are the Port Captains here – they are
experienced boaters and loopers and they welcome all passing boaters to call
them for aid or advice. We spent an hour
on their front porch learning about upcoming anchorages and cities and then
they were kind enough to lend us a truck so we could go grocery shopping.
This evening we took them to dinner along with friends from
Field Trip and Carole Ann. We went to a
casual seafood/hamburger joint called Provision and enjoyed the food and the
company.
