Croton on Hudson

Notice: Socks & blanket AC stuck on, cold!
We are back from a 10-day visit to friends and family in Wisconsin.  We spent a lot of time getting our house ready to sell, and the rest of the time enjoying good times and great meals.  Selling the house on Main Street in Racine was a big decision, and it took me (Carol) a long time to get used to that idea.  But, since we seem to be thriving on adventure perhaps moving to Florida in the next year will be just one more adventure for us.

The train ride back and forth was not expensive, and the train station was convenient to the marina…. But it’s a long night when you try to sleep in even the most comfortable recliner type coach seats.  On the return trip the train had to pause for several hours in Indiana to let tornados pass ahead of us and not drive through them.  Then we had a very slow night while crews removed downed trees that were blocking the railroad tracks.  The end result was that the 23-hour trip took 33 hours.  We were more than a little bleary when we got in to Croton train station at 3:45 am.   A fellow traveler gave us a ride to the marina and saved us from pulling our luggage a mile or so in the dark.

Now we are ready to go, we have filled the refrigerator with groceries and laid out all the best plans for the next few days.  Just waiting for the rain to stop.  It has been in the high 80’s and very, very humid between thunderstorms.  Plans to leave in the morning may be on hold again if this front doesn’t pass through tonight.

Half Moon Bay is a very nice marina – and really the best stop after coming through New York City.  It is about 30 miles north of the city, just north of the Tappan Zee Bridge.  Clean facilities, floating docks and a pretty setting but no laundry.  It’s a short cab ride to the supermarket and we would recommend this spot to other Loopers.

Quite a storm going on outside – lightning just struck one of the sailboat masts.  That’s why you always want to be parked with the sailboats in a storm.  Our shiny new Looper flag may get a little more aged looking with all this.

  1. Quite the welcome back aboard ship you're getting! Sounds like your time on land was great. Selling the house on Main St ~ hmm, you didn't ask my opinion!! Really, I love that house, but it sounds like you're ready to move on. Go for it!!
