Chattanooga, TN

Today was a tourist day after a couple of errands. Hal Baker the Chattanooga harbor host came over this morning to help us run errands. He took me to a hardware store to get my propane tank filled and a starter solenoid at the Auto Parts Store. Another Looper needed some batteries replaced and Hal took Susan to get 4 batteries. Harbor Hosts add so much to the Loop since we are all without cars. Chattanooga has a great public transportation system. Free electric buses to the major attractions and across the river. Today we took buses to the Inclined Railway, and the railway to the top of lookout mountain. The view from the top of the mountain was incredible and we were told we could see 6 states from the overlook. The railway first ran in 1895 and is an engineering achievement, two cars counter act each other and are connected by 2 mile long cables that is powered by 2 120 hp electric motors. One of the decisive battles of the Civil War were fought over Chattanooga and once the Union had control it became the major supply staging area for the campaign to win Atlanta and the deep south. Tonight we had dinner at the Big River Grill with Jeff, Susan and Sandy from Act III.
