Flour Mill with rooms in the silo |
This area of the canal is man made some is dug directly through
solid rock, while another portion rests on a hill side. Yesterday, we wondered
how the canal is shut down for the winter. If it were in Wisconsin we surmised it
would be the best snowmobile race course around. However, we learned they drain
the canal. It has a natural water level about 3 ft deep, the other 9 feet is
fed from Lake Erie. So in spring they open the gates and feed in new Lake Erie
water. Very interesting!!!
Fast Paddlers |
We completed 35 miles and 4 locks today for a total lift of
83 feet now at pool height 513 feet and mile marker 270, about 60 miles to
Buffalo.
Some kayakers can paddle at 4.6 knots.
