Completed the last lift bridge and last two 25 ft. locks on the Erie Canal early this morning and proceeded to complete the canal entering the Niagara River a bit after 1:00. Stopped at Blue Water Marina for fuel, $4.25 per gallon but better than $4.99 that I sourced in Cleveland, we should have enough fuel to complete this leg.
Buffalo in the distance |
The weather was warm and sunny again today and the
prediction for 90’s and high humidity tomorrow. Once in the Niagara we were
able to put up the Bimini top and it helped keep us cool this afternoon. As we
passed the tip of Grand Island, NY to a wider spot in the river the wind
shifted and the sea breeze was quite refreshing. This is the smell of large
fresh water, reminds me of home.
A marina with a West Marine and fine dining |
I had ordered a chart for the GPS from West Marine and had
it shipped to the store that was to be the closest to our route. I called the
marina closest to the store and reserved a slip. After checking Goggle for the
distance to the store, 106 ft. This must be heaven a marina, with a West Marine
Store in the parking lot and a fine restaurant between them.
I was able to do some house cleaning on the boat this
afternoon, after the slimy lock walls and several weeks boating it needed a bit
of a cleaning, not perfect but better.
A humid sunset this evening, promising a warm day tomorrow.
