Kaskaskia to Litter Diversion Anchorage

Thursday, 9/17/15

Another day on the Mississippi – it’s 10 feet higher than the last time we were here, its wide and its fast. We got up at sunrise to get an early start.  There are areas of great turbulence on the river.  Those areas require attention and calm, but they break up the ride and make it interesting.  We have been traveling with Blue Haven, from Milwaukee; Gemini, from LaPorte IN; Sea to See from Orcas Island in the San Juan Islands area near Washington State, and Namaste, a sailboat from Michigan.   All such very nice people, we have been having a lot of fun.

We went through very busy barge areas today where they were building big barges out of small ones, for the trip down to New Orleans.  Tonight we are anchored in a Little Diversion Channel, near Cape Girardeau MO – a quiet spot out of the busy river.  There are 7 boats anchored here and there would be room for several more.
