Menominee to Fish Creek

Well it has been a couple of days since my last post, we departed Menominee about 8 AM and arrived about 11 at Ailibi Dock in Fish Creek. Debi, Kim, Scott and the grandkids Ayla, Adam and Autumn arrived in the afternoon and the chaos began. After a long car ride the best thing to do is take a walk to the beach, skip rocks and explore. We walked around town and Carol having revived her shopping sprit, fully cured I believe, bought the kids moccasins. We walked around a bit more and reserved a place for all of us at the Pelletier's Fish Boil. Kim, Scott and Autumn pitched a tent at the Fish Creek Campgrounds the rest of us slept on the boat.

On Saturday, we cruised over to Nicolet Bay for a beach day. We also had both cars at the beach, with lots of fresh fruit and a nice picnic lunch. In the evening, we went to the Northern Sky Theater in Peninsula Park a funny melodrama called when "Butter Churns to Gold". One of the great things to do in Door County, original stage plays with professional actors at affordable prices. This is a must do whenever we are here. Fresh sweet corn provided by Scott and Kim and meat balls and spagetti provided by Carol finished off our evening.

Today, Sunday, was predicted to be a rain day and we could see a storm coming after blueberry pancakes on the boat for breakfast. We decided to go to the Maritime Museum at Gill's Rock and headed that direction, stopping at the Elision Bay County Park to over look the lake. Lots of rain clouds and weather were evident whenever we were out in the open. The museum is about the fishing industry here in Door County where they still catch 2500 pounds per day of White Fish a schooling Lake Michigan delicacy. They are caught with gill nets and brought ashore each day, much of this catch is eaten locally at various fish boils during the summer. As we headed back from Gill's Rock to Ephraim we could see the storm gather and it hit will full force. Trees down across the road stopped our progress 4 times and we noticed the power was out everywhere. We arrived at Wilson's only to find the entire staff on the front porch and the restaurant closed. They could still scoop ice cream but since cash registers are electrical they could not process transactions. It was necessary to take back roads again since the road was blocked to Fish Creek. We followed Google maps to find roads and some of those roads were blocked by fallen trees as well. About 3 PM we arrived back at the boat and made lunch, since we have a generator we could heat food in the microwave. The power is out here at the marina and throughout town, everything is black except for a few headlights and some boat lights.
